This September the AFA hosted the Australian Pavilion in Shanghai and returned to our first Furniture China exhibition in 18 years. The exhibition was
attended by over 3,000 furniture exhibitors from around the world and the AFA was situated in the International Pavilions area, where we featured a
diverse mix of industry members as part of the Australian Pavilion.

We received a tremendous response to our ‘Aussie invasion’ at one of the world’s largest Furniture Trade events. We were in a very highly sought after
location, with a fabulous mix of designers, makers, commercial, bedding, lounge, dining, seating and theatre/stadium solutions, all encased in a magnificent
backdrop of the Australian outback supplied by Pickawall.

The success that we had was fantastic and everyone is on a high. One of our bespoke makers sold a piece for a 5 figure sum, and another was picked up by
one of China’s leading design galleries for permanent display and custom orders. Our larger suppliers sold out before lunch on day one and another
could have sold a container of product just from prototype, so we can only imagine what next year will bring for this dynamic maker. Suffice to say
that all will be involved next year with others who just came to check it out, already wanting to join the Australian Furniture Association delegation.

We have learned a great deal and are now in a very good position to put that knowledge into play for 2016. We have secured pole position again for the
Australian delegation and our international colleagues can’t wait to see what we come up with next time around! Countries like Japan, Belgium, Korea,
France, Italy and China itself commented on our great design aesthetic, we were hosted at the Gala Dinner of all international representatives of the
world’s furniture associations, were centre stage at the Designer Night runway presentation and were greeted with respect and treated as equals on
the global stage.

It is moments like these that we can truly appreciate the innovation and drive that makes our Australian pioneers so great and whilst we had set off with
great anticipation, excitement and trepidation, we have returned with confidence and courage to take on the big guns and put Australian Furniture into
every room in the world. Why? Because they told us we are more than good enough, in fact we were brilliant! AND we generated the business to prove

If you would like to be a part of this for 2016 we would love to have you involved. Simply contact Bryan Furtado at to find out more.

This is a wonderful opportunity for AFA Members as the Chinese market desire quality product and are more aware of quality workmanship than ever before.
They want products that are unique and authentic.

Our next stop is Tent London as part of Design week and l can’t wait to tell you the outcomes of that.
