The AFA notes that whilst the ACCC’s strategy for 2015 does not include complaints against imported products, including furniture, complaints are in fact on the rise. The new compliance and enforcement priorities for 2015 are on cartel conduct in government procurement, truth in advertising, competition and consumer issues in the health sector and industry codes.
Cartel conduct, anti-competitive agreements and practices, and misuse of market power are three of the ACCC’s enduring focus alongside product safety. The AFA believes the rise in complaints and adherence to stricter government procurement protocols will have a subsequent positive effect on Australian manufactured product being selected ahead of imports during the procurement process.
