The following information has been released by the Fair Work Ombudsman.
Get set for a 3.3% increase to base rates of pay
The Fair Work Commission has announced a 3.3% increase to minimum wages following its 2017 Annual Wage Review. The increase will apply to base rates of pay from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2017. The new national minimum wage will be $694.90 per week or $18.29 per hour.
Who does the increase apply to?
The change only applies to employees that get their pay rates from the national minimum wage, a modern award or in some cases a registered agreement. Most employees are covered by an award. If you’re not sure which award applies to you or your employees you can contact AFA’s professional IR/HR advisor partners athranywhere on 1300 208 828 .
What do you need to do?
Nothing for now. The Fair Work Ombudsman is working on updating their pay tools with the new pay rates. It usually takes the Commission 2-3 weeks to update the pay rates in each award. Once these are published you will be able to apply the applicable rates.
Changes to penalty rates
Changes to penalty rates affect the furnishing industry and come into effect on 1July, 2017. The Fair Work Ombudsman will be updating their pay tools to reflect these changes. Read more about penalty rates here. Please note, the program of change will take up to four years for most employees and the implementation may be delayed further by intended legal action by some trade unions.
