Organisers are thrilled to host Indigenous Australian Furniture artisans to FURNITEX connect exhibition at the Royal Exhibition Buildings in July 2015.

WINYA are a majority Indigenous owned and controlled business who supply premium, craftsman-made, unique furniture pieces,’ says Australian Furniture Association CEO, Patrizia Torelli. ‘This is the first time an Indigenous furniture manufacturer has exhibited at this event and we are very pleased to be able to showcase something truly unique to Australia at this international event.’

WINYA (wi-nya), which means to "Sit " in the Wiradjuri dialect, will feature pieces produced by Indigenous Australians and a series of floor talks to both national and international visitors.

Gregory Welsh from WINYA will present the floor talks each day and cover topics such as:


- Supply chain model to assists existing business
- Mentoring and training bases
- Nationwide supply model, Timbers and transport issues (Cape York Timbers)
- And Regional objectives

‘We need to shine the spotlight on the importance of programs such as ours,’ says Gregory. ‘Our organisation is delivering ‘real life’ outcomes such as education, employment, reducing re-offending and incarceration numbers, cross cultural engagement, reconciliation action plans and staff engagement. For example our participants are involved with Supply Nation where network opportunities exist to contract their services to corporate members of Supply Nation, to design, manufacture and furnish foyers,’ he concludes.
