The Australian Furniture Association (AFA) is proud to present the Jury for the 2015 International Pavilions Design a Space & Design a Logo Competitions.
The Design-a-Space and Design-a-Logo competitions will give designers a fantastic opportunity to create the space and/or logo for the brand “Australia” to be showcased at International Pavilions, with the winning designs representing Australia at Tent London and Furniture China in September 2015.
We are proud to announce that entrants will be judged by the following national and international industry luminaries:
Having trained as a furniture designer Yvette has established a career at the centre of London's design industry. Having established a new 4,000sqm International Pavilion hall at the UK's largest commercial design event, 100% Design, she went on to develop Tent London's international presence with the annual London Design Festival; establishing the show as a culturally significant international design destination in 2014. Having worked with companies and design organisations from across the globe Yvette also supports and advises young designers globally to reach out to new markets and clients, and how to develop brand awareness. Yvette is currently Project and Business Manager for the award-winning Anne Kyyrö Quinn working across the business to develop strategic, business and showcasing opportunities
Dr. Brandon Gien:
Brandon is the CEO of Good Design Australia and President of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) - the first Australian to hold this position in the organisation's 57 year history. Prior to founding Good Design Australia, Brandon was the Executive Director of Design Strategy and Head of Corporate Services at Standards Australia, recognised by the Government as Australia's peak standards body. Through his work on the ICSID Executive Board, he has been instrumental in creating the World Design Impact Prize, a new prize to honour Industrial Design driven projects that make a positive impact on our social, economic, cultural and environmental quality of life.
Dr. Gien is a Fellow of the Design Institute of Australia (DIA), a professional member of the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA) and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). He sits on the Advisory Board of numerous design associations and educational institutions in Australia and internationally and has acted as a Jury Member for most of the major design awards in the world. Dr. Gien was made a Design Ambassador to Japan, an international design advocacy role organised by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP).
Bonnie is a design teacher, writer and practitioner from Melbourne. She represents one half of the investigative design and research partnership Double Days and is the outgoing editor of Desktop magazine. Together with interactive designer Aimee Jay, Double Days aims to combine writing and multi-disciplinary experimentation in a form of critical publishing. This has led to research articles for publications such as Creative Review and Process Journal, as well as larger projects like Gather & Fold and more recently, the design writer’s ‘perverse refuge’ Designers Who
Our 4th adjudicator in case of a tie will be the AFA's CEO Patrizia Torelli.
