RMIT’s final year furniture design students have arrived.

A new group of emerging furniture designers are knocking on Melbourne’s door and the noise is growing.
Their innovation, passion and commitment have been widely acknowledged this year in both state and national design competitions and exhibitions. These include such events as The Edge, Vivid, Object future II and the inaugural Australian International Furniture Exhibition where students exhibited alongside the very best of Australia’s Furniture design talent scooping up three of the five student awards.

The second half of the year looks equally as busy, with 13 students exhibiting innovative works at Fringe Furniture 2014, which will be on show at Abbotsford Convent between September 18 and October 5.
November will see the conclusion of 2 years of study with the graduate exhibition Made Here.

New and exciting work is currently in development with a focus on sustainable design and manufacturing practices. Made Here runs from the 29th to the 30th of November at the exhibition space 524 Flinders.
The quality and diversity of work highlights the emerging talent and is a great indicator of what to expect from the next generation of Australian furniture designers.
