The increasing trend in the use of Glass in the design of furniture has seen an increase in AFA Members enquiring about standards and regulations for the proper use of glass. The Australian standard’s Glass committee, said that there is no Australian standard for the use of glass in furniture as it is too difficult to implement and there has not been enough support for it.

However if Members require a guideline the AS1288-2006 might be suitable for this. The AFA advises that any glass in furniture should be between 6 and 10mm thick, which is more than adequate to be safe. Most standards for buildings require 6mm for safety reasons where necessary.
