AFA CEO, Patrizia Torelli, attended the recent briefing by Hon Simon Birmingham, Assistant Minister for Education and Training on the new model for Training Package development that will place industry consultation at the forefront of skills development in Australia. Under the new model the responsibility for the development of Training Packages will be with Industry Reference Committees supported by Skills Service Organisations.

The Australian Industry and Skills Committee will have overall responsibility to endorse qualifications, advise on VET quality instruments and provide industry input into VET research and the ministerial council.

Skills Service Organisations will be selected through an open competitive grants process organised by the Department of Education and Training. These will be established from October 2015 and the new model will be fully operational from 1 January 2016. Further information can be found on the VET Reform website.
