In recent weeks Harvey Norman has led the way in announcing updated testing requirements in relation to the supply and sale of Bunk Beds in all of its Harvey Norman, Domayne and Joyce Mayne Stores. The retail giant has determined that compliance with the CPN needs to improve and meet the safety expectations of their Brands, and customer expectations moving forward. This testing must be completed by the Australasian Furnishing Research and Development Institute, also known as AFRDI.

Bunk Bed manufacturers across the country will be affected by this change in testing requirements and all other retailers are sure to follow. The Christmas sales rush of orders is sure to be impacted and designers and manufacturers are urged to have their products tested now to avoid any trading delays. It is anticipated that the ACCC will also review the Mandatory Requirements for bunks which may lead to increased requirements in future, and ultimately lead to higher fees for testing.

The Australian Furniture Association (AFA) in partnership with AFRDI have secured significant discounts for AFRDI Testing for AFA Members. *conditions apply contact AFA on membership@australianfurniture.org.au
