The Australian Furniture Association (AFA) and the Australian Furnishing Industry Stewardship Council (AFISC) have once again prepared a joint 2026–27 Pre-Budget submission to the Australian Government, seeking targeted government investment to accelerate the delivery of FurnitureDNA (also known as the Furniture Passport Australia System (FPAS), a sector-specific digital product and supply-chain infrastructure for the Australian furniture industry.
FurnitureDNA responds to a growing gap between procurement, compliance and circular economy expectations and the absence of sector-ready digital infrastructure to support them. As furniture waste increases and scrutiny of chemical safety, durability, transparency and end-of-life outcomes intensifies, industry and government alike are being asked to make decisions without access to consistent, reusable and verifiable product data.
The submission proposes investment to scale FurnitureDNA as a practical, interoperable system that enables structured product information to be shared across procurement, compliance and sustainability processes. The objective is to reduce administrative burden, improve procurement confidence, support circular economy outcomes and strengthen the competitiveness of Australian manufacturers, including small and medium enterprises, in both domestic and export markets.
To inform and strengthen this submission, AFA and AFISC invited organisations across the furnishing, design, manufacturing, procurement, research and sustainability ecosystem to provide Letters of Support outlining why coordinated national action, and investment in shared digital infrastructure such as FurnitureDNA, is needed.
Letters of Support have been received from the following organisations:
- Furntech-AFRDI
- Global GreenTag International
- GS1 Australia
- James Dunlop Group
- Jardan
- Maxton Fox
- Premium Surface Protection
- Raeco
- Rebuilt
- Responsible Wood
- Sebel
- The Growth Activists
- VS Australia
- Workspace Commercial Furniture
Collectively, these Letters of Support reinforce a shared view that fragmented, manual and duplicative approaches to product information are no longer fit for purpose. They demonstrate strong industry alignment around the need for trusted, sector-specific digital infrastructure to support procurement integrity, regulatory compliance and circular economy objectives at scale.
AFA and AFISC sincerely thank all organisations that have provided Letters of Support. Their backing strengthens the Pre-Budget submission and demonstrates clear industry readiness to partner with government to deliver a practical, nationally significant digital foundation for the furniture sector.
