The Australian Furniture Association (AFA) proudly announces the release of The Architects and Specifiers Guide to Furniture (Version 1) – March 2025.

This comprehensive guide is designed to help manufacturers and suppliers directly engage with architects, interior designers, and specifiers, ensuring they have a deeper understanding of the complexities of furniture selection beyond aesthetics.

Why is this guide essential?
Furniture is more than just a design choice—it must be fit for purpose, compliant with regulations, and meet strength and durability standards. In major projects, furniture is often classified as ‘equipment’ within the furniture, fit-out, and equipment (FFE) portion. Selecting and specifying products comes with associated risks, and furniture has a unique role within the construction and procurement ecosystem.

 Managing Risk Through Compliance
There are multiple Australian Standards for furniture designed to protect public safety and industry integrity. This guide will help architects and specifiers navigate these standards, manage risk, and make informed choices—ensuring they select bona fide AFA Member products that meet compliance requirements.
