The WoodSolutions Timber Medallion was an exciting new feature of the 2016 Australian Furnishing Industry Awards (AFIA) and the Australian Contemporary Emerging (ACE) Design Award.

The Timber Medallions were chosen from entries submitted to both the Contemporary and Emerging Awards & Furnishing Industry Awards. All entries that
contained a significant amount of timber were eligible for judging – with more than 50 qualifying entries, the judges had a significant task at hand.

Using eleven criteria including innovation or originality in design, aesthetics, functionality, the use of certified wood and more, each entry was evaluated
and scored.

The winners were:

Nova by Quedos Billiard Tables

Hinoki Dining Set by Falecki Furniture

Nordic by Accolade Furniture

Flex Table & Stool by Harry Zanios & Ash Allen

Warp & Weft Stool by Bryan Micallef

V Demi Conus by Geoffrey Marshall

Tamar Sideboard by Buywood Furniture

“Wood is already a popular material for furniture – among both purchasers and designers,” said Eileen Newbury, marketing and communications manager
at Forest and Wood Products Australia Ltd, the industry services body that resources WoodSolutions.

“With the new Timber Medallion we are aiming to increase the profile of wood among furniture designers and encourage them to use and contribute to
the WoodSolutions website.”

The Australian Furniture Association (AFA) in association with WoodSolutions is proud to introduce the Timber Medallion to the 2016 AFIA & ACE
Awards. The aim of this commendation is to increase awareness about the use of wood in furniture and furnishing manufacturing and design.

WoodSolutions would like to thank the AFA for the opportunity to sponsor the Timber Medallion. An independent source of generic information about the
benefits and use of wood and wood products, WoodSolutions has become the go to resource for Australian design and construction professionals.

Building on that foundation, WoodSolutions aim to become the primary source of information about wood and wood products for people and organisations
working in the furniture design and manufacturing industries.
