The Australian Furniture Association advises that the updated Industrial Chemicals Environmental Management has been published on the Federal Register of Legislation to include standards for:
- Hexachlorobenzene (HCB)
- Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)
- Polychlorinated terphenyls (PCTs)
- Lauryl (dodecyl) sulfates
- Linear alkylbenzene sulfonates
- Four variations to existing standards.
For example, these may be found in powder and other coatings, fire retardants, water repellents, foams, textile cleaning products etc.
The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water has acknowledged the Australian Furniture Association for the investment in time and effort to submit responses as part of the public consultation process on this most recent group of new standards. Our views and expertise are vital in developing effective and appropriate standards.
All standards can also be viewed through the IChEMS, which can be searched and filtered using keywords or characteristics, such as by schedule or date of decision.
We encourage industry to explore this content and ensure that suppliers of any materials that may contain these chemicals provide you with a full schedule of materials. Be vigilant. If you require support in identifying risks, please contact Michelle Thomas at hq@afisc.com.au for help.
