The Australian Furniture Association welcomes Monarda to our community. Monarda’s approach is grounded in a simple but profound idea: that indoor living spaces can be enhanced through a meaningful connection with plants. Their mission is to create environments that feel naturally calm, relaxed, and alive, both at home and at work.

The journey began in 2019, as the team observed the challenges of hosting and maintaining a growing indoor plant collection. Rather than letting unrestrained growth create chaos, they imagined a system that could turn plants into living art while shaping the atmosphere of a home. From this vision, the Bio.frame was born – a modular, freestanding framework that supports and organizes plants in a functional and aesthetically mindful way.

Over the years, Monarda’s development of Bio.frame has been a careful exploration:
  • 2020–2021: Early miniature models explored asymmetric forms and vibrant palettes, leading to the first three modular prototypes suited for small spaces.
  • 2022: After testing 16 prototypes and caring for 350 plants, the team began to appreciate how much indoor greenery can transform a space and experimented with moving Bio.frames to meet changing needs.
  • 2023–2024: Additional frame sections and design refinements created a more versatile and visually elegant system, balancing strength with lightness.
  • 2025–2026: The Bio.frame evolved into a fully realized design philosophy, marrying biophilic principles with practical function, and Monarda became the brand name, celebrating a connection to the natural world.
Each Bio.frame is carefully designed in 3D, tested through multiple prototypes, and tailored to its intended environment. The frames are modular and freestanding, meaning they can function as room dividers, soft boundaries, or display structures, adaptable to a wide range of spaces.

Monarda’s new website (www.monarda.com.au) showcases the Bio.frame range, design insights, and the story behind their innovative approach to indoor living. Currently available within Greater Sydney, each model is made to order and delivered directly from the designer-maker workshop.

By joining the Australian Furniture Association, Monarda brings a thoughtful perspective on biophilic design and indoor greenery, emphasizing the role of plants not just as decoration, but as active contributors to wellbeing, atmosphere, and spatial experience.
