Manufacturers, Importers, Agents and Retailers were in attendance at the recent AFA Seminar on the Review of the Mandatory Standards for Bunk Beds and how they will be affected by these changes.
The Australian Furniture Association hosted this exclusive AFA Member seminar covering the latest updates on the recent ACCC review of the Mandatory Bunk Bed Standard.
This included information about the likely transitional stage of the implementation of the NEW STANDARD. The Australian Furniture Association agrees that issues identified by the ACCC in relation to Bunk Beds represents emerging safety hazards for consumers.
Under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), mandatory consumer product safety standards are introduced when considered reasonably necessary to prevent or reduce the risk of injury to a person. The AFA has made its submission on behalf of the industry to the ACCC in relation to the review of the Bunk Bed standard and the recommendations are awaiting the Minister’s final decision and an announcement of the new Mandatory Standard. The deadline for the announcement of the new Standard and transitional arrangements are scheduled to be made by the end of 2016.
