The Australian Furniture Association extends an invitation to industry to attend the Wrap Up Event for the Take A Seat With Us Program on Wednesday 14 August 2024.
You will recall that just over twelve months ago the AFA identified that the skilled upholsterer shortage has been front of mind for many Australian Furnishing Manufacturers for a number of years.
Industry had repeatedly challenged government to support the ongoing training of skilled upholsterers to resource the burgeoning local manufacturing sector, and the aftercare market, which is dealing with significant rates of reupholstery, refurbishment and repurposing. The Australian Furniture Association, together with alliance partners at Automotive, Boating, Caravanning and Specialised Textiles, the Multi Industry Collaboration Group, Holmesglen Institute of TAFE to deliver FREE training for 96 trainees. The program has well and truly exceeded expectations.
The MICG are proud to announce that the program will come to its formal conclusion in August and we’d like you to help us celebrate and benefit from the outstanding achievements in delivering:
- An Industry-led innovative training taster program for Upholsters/Trimmers/Textile fabrications was developed to meet industry needs.
- A model of strong cross collaboration across five industry bodies sharing the same post-pandemic labour shortage.
- A program delivered to 96 students and currently 450+ expressions of interest, indicating high demand.
- A waitlist of over 40 students ready to go if additional funding can be secured.
- ~20% graduates have transitioned into employment.
- 38 Students now enrolled to undertake Certificate training in a course that had not been delivered at Holmesglen Institute for Three Years!
